Vintage Flevo Description in Detail

1. it is a Flevobike type 'Bike', with the peculiarity that the front- and rear wheel suspension is not based on elastomere elements, but on telescopic spring-and-damper units, of the type that used to be fitted commonly on mopeds. The brand name is SEBAC, made in Italy. Because of this suspension system, the height of the frame is not adjustable as with modern Bikes.

2. the rear wheel is mounted asymmetrically, i.e. the rear fork is a single arm (monolever). The rear wheel axle is clamped in the fork in the same manner as the dowel of the front end frame is fixed in its hole in the rear end.

3. de hub if the rear wheel is probably custom made by the builder of the bike.

4. the front wheel hub bears the inscription: HB MN 72, Shimano, Japan VIA; below that, the characters J E.

5. the crank axle house is mounted on the front-end frame by means of a plate and two M6 bolts; clearly more primitive than on modern 'Bikes'.

6. the wheels have 20 inch aluninium rims, 20 x 1 3/8 (438), with 36 spokes. De front rim shows a black mark with a smiling face and a spoked wheel in the background. The make of the rear rim is WEINMANN.

7. the derailleur is a Shimano Tourney with 5 sprockets.

8. the bike has a Magura hydraulic front brake. A peculiarity is that the brake cylinders are fitted on a yoke, which is centrally mounted on the front fork. The yoke shows serial number 110.

9. the dynamo is integrated in a metal roller which can be positioned against the top-surface of the front tyre. The brand name is Sanyo NH-T6, 6V 3W. On the other side it says: 'Dynapower'.

10. the frame is spray-painted orange and yellow (rather amateurish). the paint underneath is white, with a layer of green under the white.

11. the seat is made of polyester and is yellow with a black trimming. The rear side shows a black sticker of a bird of prey, the symbol of the province of Flevoland. De yellow colour is a paint coating; if you sand it off, white emerges, while the colour of the polyester material itself is orange.

12. the seat is covered with a green cushion. The green cover is rather neatly made of fabric and has a yellow zipper in the backside. The colour resembles the original green of the frame, but is a shade lighter (as a result of ageing?). The cushion itself is made of a soft gel, with  a layer of whitish fabric on the outside.

13. The primary sprocket has 68 teeth, one side of the rim shows 'Made in 68 France'; the other side has a trade mark with the characters TA. The text 'DURAL FORCE - GARANTIE CEGEDUR - Made in France' surrounds the mark.

14. the cranks are by TA spécialités - Made in France.

15. the handle bar is fixed to the frame in a more primitive way than on current flevo bikes.

16. according to Flevo-specialist Erik Wannee the rubber diabolo has a slightly different shape compared to current Bikes. It shows: 'mod. déposé / made in france'.

17. on the upper side of of the main tube of the front frame, the brand name F L E V O B I K E is visible, in stencilled orange characters.

18. the frame has no serial number.

19. because of the telescopic suspension units the height of the frame is not adjustable, like that of modern Bikes.

20. above the rear wheel, there is an extra piece of frame tube, which is absent on modern Bikes.
